Where I'm At - Holcombe House
I took a couple of photos of the house where I'm staying now in Jackson. Jackson is a small but somewhat historic town, and most of the houses around here seem to have historical markers in front of them. Twyana, who owns this house, works at the hospital and offered to take in a couple of Tulane refugees for the duration. This particular house has been through a lot of remodeling and renovation, and has survived two fires. It is right down the street from the old Centennary College that moved long ago up near Shreveport. In fact, it was owned by one of the professors from the college.
It is quite a nice place, and like most such houses it is still a work in progress. It's been a long time since I was without a shower, though. The old claw-foot tub in the bathroom adjoining our bedroom is just like the one we used to have in our old shotgun on Burthe St. in New Orleans. My sister still owns that house, and I'm sure the tub is still there.

Randy,
I now feel totally caught up with you via your blog. Glad you and Candy are fine. Sorry about your house. I knew your bike would make it out of NO safely. Being in Jackson is not so bad for riding. It'd be better if you had someone to ride with.
Covington is a tree graveyard. I'm not sure how I managed to get so lucky, but my office and house are both intact with no damage. The neighborhood is a mess through, and I've done my fair share of tarp spreading, furniture moving, the works... Power and phones finally restored here at the office so I'm able to get online again. Need to buy a laptop so I'm not out of commission when the next emergency hits.
Working through my 1 million e-mails now and so far it looks like no one is hurt although lots of lost and damaged property. I'll stay in touch. Let me know if you need anything. Hope to see you soon.
Keith
I do love that front porch of the house where you are staying. I hope it works out as a nice place for you to stay until your life can return to something more resembling normality.
